What most dermatologists don't know is there's an alternative. And it's safe.
If you’ve been using it on your skin since last fall, it’s time to stop now -before it’s too late.
No matter whether you’re a fan,
or like me, you’re definitely not,
the last thing you need now that the sun’s out in full force,
is to make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
You wouldn’t think the most widely recommended skincare ingredient, the one dermatologists love best, would increase your chances of skin cancer.
But it does.
What most dermatologists don’t know is there’s an alternative. And it’s safe.
I grow Calendula in my garden and on summer days, sun high overhead in the sky, I harvest the bright orange flowers to use as an active ingredient in my skincare products.
It’s one of my favorite botanicals because like retinoids, Calendula increases collagen production.
Calendula also decreases production of collagenase -this is an enzyme that breaks down collagen in your skin.
Retinoids, Retinol, Tretinoin, they’re made from Vitamin A and this is how they decrease wrinkles.
Calendula uses a different-but-similar approach to decreasing wrinkles.
Calendula flowers contains carotenoids called provitamin A. The body converts this particular craotenoid into actual Vitamin A.
Voila 🪄 the benefits of Retinoids. Without any of the risks.
Like magic.
It’s nature.
Unlike Retinoids, Calendula contains not only Vitamin A, but also terpenoids, flavonoids, coumarins, phenolic acids, quinones and amino acids.
Each of these is a skin superhero.
This is why Calendula flowers are much more than only a Retinoid substitute.
As such, Calendula flowers are able to heal the long list of issues that are also potential side effects of Retioids:
· Peeling, flaking and scaly skin
· Burning sensations
· Redness
· Stinging
· Swelling
· “Raw” skin
· Acne breakouts
· Eczema
· Fungal infection
· Extreme sensitivity to the sun and increased sunburn risk (in all cases)
Calendula flower cream is safe to put on when you’re going outdoors to enjoy the sun. In fact, these flowers are so safe they’re an important ingredient in my SPF Skin Cream.
Why do I include Calendula flowers in my SPF Cream? Answer: because Calendula prevents and reverses effects of sun damage as well as offering a small degree of SPF protection!
If you’re curious about using Calendula on your skin, here’s the list of Calendula-infused products I make by hand and carry in my shop. Click on each product to go there.
I can’t imagine going a single day without putting calendula on my skin. Thank goodness that I don’t have to go without all the skin benefit that come with Vitamin A.

Wishing you an amazing weekend!
Lots of love,

PS This year’s Calendula plants are already about 6 inches high in my garden. I started the seeds in my greenhouse and transplanted them into the garden about 6 weeks ago. Looking forward to their blooms.
