I have a Lilac Bush in my side yard that blooms every May. As I spend less time there than other areas of my yard, I always smell the delicious fragrance before I rush over to see the cascades of stunning lavender-colored flowers.
 
Once I discover fleeting flowers in bloom, I harvest the flowers over a few sunny afternoons when the oil levels in the blossoms are at their peak.  I infusethe oil for my soap and make a lilac tea to create the lye mix. I also place flowers in a heavy text book (specifically, History of Art! It is giant!) to press them so that you can have what I think this is one of the prettiest soaps I have ever made!
